How to Make Fresh Fattoush Salad

What is the Fattouch Salad?

Fattoush salad is a traditional Lebanese salad that is popular throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean regions. It's a refreshing and colorful salad that typically features crispy pita bread and a variety of fresh vegetables, such as cucumber, tomato, and green bell pepper.

The salad dressing is made with a mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and sumac, which gives the salad a tangy and slightly acidic flavor. Sumac is a reddish-purple spice that is made from the dried and ground berries of the sumac plant. It's commonly used in Middle Eastern cuisine and is known for its tangy and lemony flavor.

To make Fattoush salad, the pita bread is first toasted in the oven until crisp and then torn into bite-sized pieces. The vegetables are chopped and mixed together with the pita bread, fresh herbs, and the dressing. It's a simple and easy-to-make salad that is perfect for summertime.

Fattoush salad is not only delicious but also healthy. It's low in calories and high in fiber and nutrients, such as vitamins A and C, folate, and potassium. It's also a great way to use up leftover pita bread and vegetables.

Variations of Fattoush Salad

There are various ways to customize Fattoush salad to suit your preferences. Here are a few ideas for variations to try:

3. Add protein: To make your salad more filling, try adding some protein. Grilled chicken or steak is a great option, but you could also use roasted chickpeas or marinated tofu.

4. Switch up the dressing: While the traditional Fattoush dressing is made with olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic, you could also try using other dressings like a Tahini-based dressing or a yogurt-based dressing.

5. Try different breads: While pita bread is the classic choice for Fattoush salad, you can try using other types of bread as well. Try using naan bread or lavash bread for a different texture and flavor.
